KYC Checks for ID Card Printer Purchases from Individuals

To help prevent misuse of ID card printing equipment, we carry out Know Your Customer (KYC) checks on certain orders, especially where an individual is purchasing an ID card printer rather than a registered business.

KYC is a standard part of responsible trading. It helps us confirm the identity of the purchaser and ensure we’re supplying printers for legitimate, lawful use.

What KYC means (plain English)

KYC simply means we may ask for information to verify:

  • Who you are (identity)
  • Where you live (address)
  • That the purchase makes sense for the intended use

These checks are designed to be straightforward and proportionate.

When we may request KYC

We don’t perform KYC on every order, but we may request checks where, for example:

  • the purchaser is buying as an individual / sole trader (rather than a limited company)
  • delivery or billing details don’t match or can’t be verified
  • the order contains higher-risk items (e.g., ID printers & certain consumables)
  • the order is unusually large, urgent, or differs from typical consumer purchasing patterns
  • we need to comply with our obligations around fraud prevention and responsible supply

If KYC is required, we’ll contact you promptly with clear instructions.

Keeping your information safe

We treat all KYC information as confidential. Documents are used only for verification and compliance purposes, and access is restricted to authorised staff.

Where appropriate, we use Stripe to help us verify identity. This may involve you completing a short identity check via a secure Stripe link (for example, submitting a photo of an ID document and, in some cases, a selfie). Stripe processes this information to perform the verification and returns a verification outcome to us.

We only use the result of the check (and any limited details we need to record for compliance) to decide whether we can proceed with your order.

For more detail on how we handle personal data, please see our Privacy Policy.

You can also review Stripe’s Privacy Policy for information on how Stripe processes identity data.

If you don’t want to complete KYC

If KYC is required for your order and we don’t receive the requested information, or if an identity check via Stripe is not completed, we may be unable to process the purchase and may need to cancel and refund the order.

We also reserve the right to decline supply where we cannot satisfactorily complete checks or where concerns remain.

FAQs

Why are you doing KYC for a printer purchase?

ID card printers can be misused to create convincing identity documents. KYC helps ensure we supply responsibly and protect both customers and the wider public.

Will KYC delay my delivery?

It can, but we aim to minimise delays. The quickest way to keep your order moving is to send all requested documents promptly and ensure details match your order.

What if I’m buying on behalf of a business?

If you’re purchasing for a registered company or organisation, we may instead request company verification (e.g., company registration details) and confirmation you’re authorised to buy on its behalf.
